• Explanation: UN+ has 29 non-ISO regions including the 4 countries of the UK. To calculate the minimum number of ISO countries/territories visited (most pessimistic scenario):
  • the traveler starts by visiting the 26 non-ISO regions (corresponding to 0 ISO countries/territories visited),
  • then visits the 4 countries of the United Kingdom (corresponding to 1 ISO country/territory visited)
  • and then visits the remaining UN+ countries/territories (UN countries or autonomous territories common to ISO)

3) RANKINGS

Users can view different types of rankings:

• the annual Official Rankings;
• the Live Ranking, always up to date.

For each of these rankings, they can choose to view:

• the total ranking;
• the ranking of the quantity component (QT) only;
• the ranking of the quality component (QL) only.

4) LIVE RANKING

In this Index, when we refer to a Live Ranking, we mean the previous Official Ranking, updated to reflect:

• any changes in the number of items under each criterion;
• any updates made by travelers included in the previous Official Ranking;
• any traveler submissions that have not yet been verified.

The Live Ranking is not verified by MTI and remains provisional throughout the year until, the following year, the new Official Ranking is calculated based on data provided by our partners, NomadMania and MTP.

5) ACCOUNTS

Travelers can create an account on the MTI website, either with their Google account or with an email address and password (in which case the address must be verified before most features become available). An account allows travelers to:

• link it to their entry in the Official Ranking, after review by the MTI team;
• submit their simulated index score to the Live Ranking and keep it up to date over time;
• keep a history of their simulations, with the simulator remembering the values last used;
• follow, on their dashboard, every conversation they have had with MTI through the contact form, read the replies from the MTI team and answer them directly from there;
• choose which email notifications they receive and whether MTI may use their simulations for analytics.

Anything a traveler did before creating an account is not lost: once the account’s email address is verified, the messages sent through the contact form and the simulations saved with that same address (when the traveler agreed to store their results) are automatically linked to the new account.

6) LIMITATIONS

• The index includes only living travelers who are registered on NomadMania and/or MTP.
• The index relies on information from the MTP and NomadMania websites and uses the values reflected on those sites, which may disadvantage travelers who have not filled in or updated some of the criteria in these clubs.
• The index includes only qualitative criteria listed on the NomadMania and MTP sites, leaving out many other interesting factors that could be used to assess the quality of visits made.
• The calculation of the number of MTP regions based on NomadMania data, or vice versa, is an approximation and may not exactly match the traveler’s actual number of visited regions.
• The WHS and Cultural criteria have a greater weighting than the other qualitative criteria which, despite being justifiable, incorporates a subjective judgment.
• The Capital and Border criteria include territories and borders selected with a small degree of subjectivity, which also goes against one of the principles of the index.
• Although it is based on objective data (number of days the traveler spends in a country), the SLOW Index uses subjective criteria in calculating its value; in addition, it includes 3 independent states that are not members of the UN, leaving out other independent states, based on subjective criteria; in both cases, this goes against one of the principles of the index.
• For travelers who do not belong to both clubs, projections were made that may diminish the actual value of their index score.
